Juniper Jack Gin: The Independent Spirit

Juniper Jack Gin: The Independent Spirit

Maverick.

Daring.

Unorthodox.

Independent.

Call it what you will, but one thing is for sure: the Juniper Jack Gin story is like none other.

Working in the wine industry for 5 years, Jörg Fiedler saw just how much a sense of true authenticity was lacking. When focusing only on the profits, he felt like the joy within the process of creation was compromised at best, and mostly non-existent at worst. After exiting this approach, and partnering with Siegbert Hennig, a master distiller, it took the pair two years of countless experiments with exquisite botanicals and the distillation processes to develop just the right recipe for just the right gin.

Juniper Jack originally featured in a 40-page protest play against King George II from London in 1736. It was this story that inspired Jörg, and hence, the Juniper Jack Gin brand was born. “The Death of Queen Gin” play sees Juniper Jack take on King George II in a fight for freedom, independence, and a self-determined life - one without violence; but with creativity and the Power of Independent Spirit.

Definitely conceived, embodying protest through one’s own nature - it’s as if being born as oneself was indeed a crime at the time. In the narrative of the play, only 8 distilleries in London could distill gin causing chaos in society, with the delight of characters being named after botanicals.

The challenge lies in getting attention, being noticed and standing out

Akin to David taking on Goliath, Jörg sees his endeavors in a maverick and adventurously independent light. Him and the Juniper Jack Gin brand are considerably smaller in comparison to the big industry of alcohol and spirits. The challenge lies in getting attention, being noticed and standing out, especially in the overflow of microbreweries and distilleries. Yet this is where authenticity and the fruits of hard work begin to outshine the rest.

Gin simply needs to be just that - gin. It doesn’t need to pretend to be anything else. And within this simplicity, each and every detail is something that matters to Jörg.

There is a certain distinction that one reaches after going through the process of forging the inner core of a taste over time. This remains unattainable when working outside the scope of one’s genuine nature. But, when one’s authenticity is the driving force, that is where the otherworldly magic happens. It lies within meticulous attention to detail. It lies within the choice of glass. It lies within an uncompromising nature - the culmination is the distinction of something of true quality - which is what Juniper Jack Gin exudes.

alluding to something greater and grander in its mystique

Be it from the choice of the weight and size of the glass, to the specific family that he has cultivated a relationship with to source his Juniper berries from. This is what Jörg believes people want - truth and value. In an exclusive conversation with THE GUESTLIST, preparing for his second collaborative product, Jörg shared that his favourite part is working with the botanicals - which he believes give gin its soul.

Creating gin, to him, is a magical process - one involving elements of the predictable, fused with sparkles of the unknown, alluding to something greater and grander in its mystique. Juniper Jack works with 10 botanicals: 5 of these are the main, more meaningful ones and the other 5 give the background noises that harmonize the initial tones. Jörg indeed delights in the challenge of formulating a complex gin out of 5 botanicals.

Within each bottle, the essential components are optimally dissolved and bring the aromas to bear perfectly. Intense, powerful, and at the same time incredibly smooth on the palate – the culmination of which is a very rare feat indeed. Made in an old-fashioned distillery in Dresden, the quality standards of the elaborate maceration and process in the small 300-liter copper still do not allow large quantities. With each bottle numbered by hand and eponymous to its distinctive ingredient, Juniper Jack Gin is timeless, classic, and distinguished across generations.
